Garden Plans
Courtesy of Country Living, BHG, and Old Farmer's Almanac
All plans contain a larger version of the illustration, a detailed layout
diagram, a list of
plants for the garden as shown, and complete instructions for installing
the garden. Download
your favorite plans, take the plant list to your local plant nursery,
and they will help you choose your plants that are right for your
region, and can suggest the proper replacement plants for the ones on
your list, that display the same attributes.
Avoid going to chain store home and garden centers for the plants in
these specialty designs, because you don't know the care they received,
and the quality and hardiness will not be the same. Go to the
growers and nurseries in your area, and on ebay and etsy. I've gotten
big, beautiful, healthy and guaranteed plants and trees from lots of
these reputable nurseries and growers. Hint: If you
love the look of one of these gardens, ignore the "name" of the plan,
and substitute your own plants for
the suggestions. For instance, if you love the design for a sunny type of garden
design but have only shade, choose shady garden
plants to fill in the style of the design. If you love the herb garden designs,
there's no reason not to substitute flowers for the herbs.
